In a bid to streamline its operations, Disney is laying off workers this week, says CEO Josh D’Amaro in a memo sent to employees on Tuesday. The notable media corporations plans to axe approximately 1,000 roles, predominantly resulting from the creation of a consolidated enterprise marketing sector under Chief Marketing and Brand Officer Asad Ayaz. The layoffs will span across various facets of Disney including the TV networks, studios, ESPN, product and technology, and corporate groups.

D’Amaro mentioned that the unification of the enterprise marketing and brand organization is aimed at serving consumers in a more interlinked manner. He wrote, “Over the past several months, we have been finding ways to streamline our operations in different areas of the company to make sure we deliver the world-class creativity and innovation our fans respect and await from Disney.” He further added that in light of the rapid progress in their industries, it is vital to scrutinize strategies for propelling a more technologically-adept and flexible workforce to cater to future needs.

While addressing the memo to the employees, he consoled them by saying, “I know this is hard,” and reiterated that these decisions are not indicative of their contributions, or the overall robustness of the company. Instead, this step is a reflection of the company's constant evaluation of how to better manage its resources and reinvest in its businesses.

As of September 2025, Disney reported a staff of approximately 231,000 full-time and part-time employees, the numbers of which will see a reduction due to these layoffs. This move mark the first massive restructuring initiative under D’Amaro, who assumed Disney’s CEO position on March 18 from Bob Iger. Prior to this, D’Amaro chaired Disney Experiences.
