Firefly Lane, Season 2 Episode 8 begins with a police officer bringing Tully out of the hospital.

When she tries to speak to Kate, she is absolutely ignored. They must have been told by the police that Tully was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. After visiting the police station, Tully is widely in the press. Even though her career is in danger, Tully is more worried about talking to Kate because she hasn’t returned her calls. Her representative advises her that discussing the incident is the only way to rescue her new program.

When Tully finally gets a chance to speak with Johnny, he is furious and won’t allow her to speak with Kate. Tully letting Marah attend a frat party and then picking her up intoxicated infuriates him.

Tully discovers in the 1980s that the news channel’s ratings have fallen since she took over as anchor. She needs to work on improving her performance, and getting favorable feedback from the focus groups is extremely important to her. In the meantime, Kate chooses to get with Theo in an effort to move past Johnny.

But as Tully was practicing her lines in the office, she unintentionally lit the microwave on fire. She shouts, “Katie and Theo!” Although the fire department handles the fire, Tully does not take it seriously. Johnny says she might lose her job. The director fires Kate after she accepts blame for the fire. Tully does not know why Kate is to blame for the fire, but Kate is confident in Tully’s professional future.

Eugene wants a quiet conversation with Kate in the 1970s. He wants to know why she won’t talk to him. According to Kate, she wants to maintain a professional atmosphere for the AV club.
