India's 'Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata' set for Global Release in 2027

Sagar Pictures Entertainment, an acclaimed Indian studio, has eagerly revealed its seven-part franchise rooted in the 'Bhagavata Mahapurana'. The series will commence with 'Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata', as depicted in the recently disclosed teaser poster. The film, with a global audience in view, is set to hit the theatres in 2027.

'Vishnurata', a name synonymous with King Parikshit, refers to an entity under the eternal protection of Lord Vishnu as per the 'Bhagavata Mahapurana'. The franchise thus situates itself on a spiritual backbone, showcasing Lord Krishna's narrative and encapsulating an extensive spiritual cosmos centered on devotion, righteousness, and the sacred connection between mankind and divinity.

Sagar Pictures Entertainment, the brilliant minds behind the 1987 television adaptation of the 'Ramayana', has entrusted the directorial chairs to Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra. SPE's CEO and senior vice president of content, Akash and Amrit, respectively, are the descendants of the late producer Ramanand Sagar.

The Chopra brothers spent half a decade studying the 'Bhagavatam' before they felt ready to translate it to the silver screen. They recognized that its scope far superseded that of an ordinary film, necessitating a more unique treatment and an expansive cinematic framework.

The project's completion is on the horizon. According to the studio, the film possesses an impressive production architecture and depicts revered visual artifacts from devotion-related art forms, setting an unparalleled benchmark for the genre.

Staying faithful to the traditional sacred imagery was also a key aspect of the film's production. The filmmakers have avoided unnecessary reinvention and focused on giving life to these familiar images with a contemporary touch that the present day cinema allows.
