Pieces of Her Episode 8 Recap

Here’s a recap of the final episode of Pieces of Her on Netflix.

Pieces of Her

After 7 episodes and plenty of twists and turns, we have reached the finale of Pieces of Her on Netflix. There are a lot of loose ends to tie up, so let’s dive right in.

Where we Left Off

Episode 7 brought us a number of revelations about the past.

  • Jane went to prison as part of her deal with the US attorney and was released into witness protection after 5 years.
  • Andy spent the first 5ish years of her life with friends of Andy and Nick, Eli and his wife.
  • Jane’s brother Andrew died after being shot by the FBI during the Army of the Changing World’s getaway.
  • Jasper knew about the impending attack on his father in Oslo and planned to use it to take over the company.
  • Nick is most definitely still alive since he apparently ran Charlie and Andy off the road and has now brought Andy back to Eli’s cabin.

A New Flashback

Pieces of Her, Episode 8

This series has relied on flashbacks to give us a lot of info and we get another blockbuster in the beginning of episode 8. Way back in episode 3, we heard Jane/Laura have a phone conversation with an unknown person. Turns out it was NIck! She was making a deal to hand over the recording of Jasper and Nick in exchange for him leaving her and Andy alone forever. They agree to meet at Eli’s cabin. So, we know Jane is headed there in the present.

A Family Reunion

At the cabin in the present, Nick tells Andy that he conveniently heard the car crash and rescued her after Charlie was taken to the hospital. We’re not buying it, but we know Andy isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer at this point. We also know he killed Clara, which he conveniently neglects to tell Andy when she asks about her. Nick also apologizes for hurting Jane, but again, we’re not really believing him.

Jane arrives and they talk about Oslo (so we can finally get his side of the story) and he claims that he didn’t give Grace the gun. As they are talking, Andy remembers the crash vividly and knows that Nick crashed into them and likely left Charlie to die in the wreckage. Andy knocks the lantern on the floor, causing a fire and the three escape the cabin, with Jane having grabbed Nick’s gun in the confusion. She is prepared to kill Nick, when the cops arrive to take them all into custody.

Justice Served?

Nick and Jane are questioned by the DOJ. We learn that Charlie did die in the crash and Nick will be charged with both Martin’s and Charlie’s murder with Jane testifying against him. Jasper arrives and has a moment with Jane. She is concerned that NIck will find a way to avoid prison and asks Jasper to look into it. Hmmm.

Loose Ends

We are now tying up some loose ends, including US Marshal Michael Vargas, who Andy and we basically wrote off after he was obviously poisoned. Turns out he was indeed poisoned and only barely survived, thanks to Andy starting CPR immediately. He is OK now, but his career is probably over. He and Andy have a moment and we guess they may get together once the dust settles a bit.

Meanwhile, Jane is struggling to return to a ‘normal’ life. When did she ever have one? She tries to start anew, dumping all her Laura clothes and even sitting down to play piano for the first time since before going to prison.

The Final Knife Twist

What, we thought it was all cleared up? Not even close. We get a final flashback to Oslo where we learn that Grace got the gun she used to kill Margin from Jane. We learn a bit more about Martin’s abusive relationship with Jane, including drugging her when she was initially pregnant, likely trying to end her pregnancy. That was the final straw for Jane after years of implied abuse. Nick seems to have suspected that Jane gave her the gun, but has said nothing about it to date. This has Jane very concerned. Andy comes to the conclusion that Jane gave Grace the gun, as well, further pushing them apart.

Jasper also learns that Jane is responsible for Martin’s death after listening in on Nick’s meeting with his lawyer, but promises to keep it quiet since they are family. Does anyone think that owing Jasper a favor is a good place to be? Nope.

In the final scene, Jane and Andy meet up on the beach and take a walk together. Will it be the beginning of their reconciliation? We won’t know unless there is a season 2, which isn’t likely, but who knows.
