"The Simpsons Movie 2" is among the initiators to secure state funding for animation production; the California state has graced it with $21.9 million from its expanded production incentive program. This sequel is part of 38 films - a blend of eight studio productions and 30 independent ones - set to collectively receive a whopping $193 million in tax credits from the California Film Commission. Other beneficiaries of this scheme include "Phineas and Ferb" and an undisclosed DreamWorks Animation project, which are set to receive state subsidies of $3.5 million and $24.7 million, respectively.

California Legislature's decision last year to include animated projects in the program led to a dramatic increase in overall expenditure, which rose to $750 million per year. "The Simpsons Movie 2" is due for a credit covering 35% of its qualified California expenditures. The sequel, which will feature 22 actors and nearly 200 crew members, was disclosed by Disney last fall, with a release date slated for July 23, 2027. This release comes two decades after the release of the original film.

Among the 35 live-action films procuring tax credits this time is "Self Help," an independent production under actor Will Ferrell's mantle. In reaction to the funding, Ferrell expressed his honor for "Self Help" being picked for the California Film & TV Tax Credit Program. The program's success in boosting California's film industry, according to Ferrell, highlights the importance of local production and its collaborative crews to the film industry at large.

Other noteworthy recipients of funding include the Netflix reboot of "13 Going on 30," allocated $10.9 million, and an untitled Paramount-produced crime thriller, which is set to receive $25.9 million. A comprehensive list of all projects benefiting from the funding program includes a diverse range of titles from various producers and studios.
