Kattegat

At Kattegat, the villagers prepare for the impending attack from Kare, the Christian zealot and his army. It appears Harald and Freydis are back together, as they talk about their future and what they envision.

A ship approaches in the harbor. It bears the heads and bodies of the priests and priestesses from Uppsala. The ones Kare murdered. Freydis, Harald, and Leif and the rest of the gang see if they can go back and track Kare down.

London

Meanwhile, Cnut has vanished in the middle of the night after marrying Emma. There are attacks on Denmark he needs to put out. In his stead, we meet his father, Sweyn Forkbread. Yes, Forkbread was actually a real Viking figure, and his first name is pronounced Sven.

Forkbeard isn’t quite as understanding as his son. Within his first few days at court, he kills the earl of Wessex and appoints Godwin the new earl. To make matters even worse, Queen Aelfgifu shows up too. She’s here for her throne and Emma is not happy.

The pledge fealty to King Edmund, but as Edmund rides away, his horse trips on a hidden rope and he is flung from the saddle. Legs broken and side pierced by a branch, he’s badly injured.

Godwin comes to his side but instead of saving him, pulls out a small blade and covertly inserts it into his heart, killing him. The news is delivered to court, as everyone chants “Long live King Cnut”.

Ending
