The Little Prince
In this charming tale, the Little Prince travels from place to place, getting to know the people there but saddened that they never really get to know him. The book is great for teaching children how to understand and appreciate other people while still taking care of themselves.
Charlotte’s Web
Charlotte’s Web focuses on an unusual friendship struck up between a pig named Wilbur and Charlotte the spider. When Charlotte finds out that Wilbur is to be slaughtered, she plans to save him anyway she can. A bittersweet read, this book teaches the importance of friends and introduces children to the concept of death.
The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden focuses on Mary Lennox, a young girl who lives in India and has everything she wants – except friends. Orphaned and sent to the UK, she starts to experience a life unlike anything she imagined. Looking at friendships and Mary’s maturing, this book always remains popular with children.
The Wind in the Willows
Mole, Ratty, Toad, and Badger are the main characters in this light-hearted tale. Rich and spoilt Toad gets into trouble and finds that he needs rescuing, masterminded by some very good friends. Funny and poignant, this book is sure to be a hit with kids!
The Ramona Series
This classic is loved by children for a reason – it’s always relatable. The overall feelings children have in these scenarios have stayed the same, and Ramona has her own unique approach! These books are fun and great to discuss important (and less important) topics with your kids.
