As the end of 2021 approaches, check out our updated list of some of the best video games from 2021.

Deathloop

(PS5 and PC)

Death Loop
Death Loop

The single best reason to go out and buy yourself a PlayStation 5. This is a mix of murder-puzzle, with action and combat. You are thrown headfirst into the story as a member of a team in charge of ensuring the safety of the Loop, a world stuck in a time loop full of crazy science and wild experiences. However, your mission is to break the cycle and escape the Loop. It’s a wild ride that delivers fun for just about every first-person shooter playstyle (stealth, brute force, etc.). Available on Amazon

Halo Infinite

There was some trepidation among fans ahead of the release of Halo Infinite. But, those worries proved unfounded as the game absolutely delivers in every way. The single-player campaign really lends new life to the series by blending Halo’s classic combat sandbox with a massive ring that you’re open to explore and smash up to your heart’s content. The multiplayer mode is free-to-play and gives experienced and brand-new players a fun, pure arenas shooter experience that packs in the fun and cuts out a lot of the trendy nonsense. Overall, Halo Infinite absolutely brings the series back to its place atop the video game arena.  Available on Amazon.

Metroid Dread

Metroid
Metroid

A strong addition to the Metroid series. It’s an interesting entry since it doesn’t go all-in on next-gen enhancements. It doesn’t deliver 4K resolution and the gameplay is mostly 2D. But, this seemingly old-school route works, with extremely challenging boss fights and difficult spots to work through by deciphering the map. This back-to-basics approach delivers a gaming experience based on the ongoing exploration and highly challenging open world within the game. Available on Amazon.

Resident Evil Village

(PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia)

Resident Evil
Resident Evil

The latest entry into the long-running Resident Evil franchise (the 8th game!), celebrates the 25h anniversary of the original game. You get the full package of Resident Evil fun, including plenty of suspense, some scary horror scenes, fun characters to play, an exciting combat system, and numerous surreal locations. This remains one of the all-time best horror game series. If you already love the Resident Evil series, then picking up this game is an easy decision. If you’re not already familiar with the series, it’s a great introduction. This one is on a lot of lists as one of the best games of the year. Available on Amazon.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

(PS5)

Ratchet
Ratchet

Another strong reason to pick up a PS5, this game takes advantage of every graphic updated in the gaming platform to deliver a spectacular-looking gaming experience. Beyond that, the gameplay is a blast. It picks up the story that has spanned almost 20 years and four generations of gaming consoles. It’s zany, outrageous, and totally fun. Available on Amazon.

Hitman 3

(PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Switch, Stadia)

Hit Man
Hit Man

The third installment in the Hitman game series includes awesome level design and can be played in VR!  This remains one of the best third-person shooters where stealth gameplay is the key to success. Predetermined assassination missions power the story, but players can choose a wide variety of methods in large sandbox-style locations. The plot is more important this time around, making this the best entry into the successful game series. Available on Amazon.

Monster Hunter Rise

(Switch)

Monster Hunter
Monster Hunter

Like big bad boss fights?  Well, Monster Hunter Rise has you covered. Fight monsters. Get better gear. Fight bigger, badder monsters. Get better gear. Repeat. The combat is fluid and the lineup of monsters is awesome. There is also over 50 hours of gameplay, so don’t expect to finish this game anytime soon. If you’ve enjoyed previous Monster Hunter games, this one is sure to be a favorite, with some small improvements to the gameplay. Available on Amazon.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition

(PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Mass Effect
Mass Effect

Imagine taking all of the content from the first 3 Mass Effect games and all the downloadable content, upgrading the graphics to 4K, and packing it into one big game package. Well, you don’t have to imagine, because that’s what the Legendary Edition does. You also get some new options, better controls, and other upgrades to the gameplay. If you’re a long-time Mass Effect fan this will bring back memories and upgrade the experience and if you’re new to the franchise, this is literally the perfect way to get up to speed. Available on Amazon.
